Single-segment any% run of Super Metroid, done on April 23 2004. Available in both mpeg4 and DivX versions.
Firstly, as you can see this is a no-save run; just a straight run in one sitting. Secondly, this pure speed run route and most of the tricks were based with the same as Ultima's. One thing that I did plan to do was saving one or two times, probably before heading to Maridia just to split the run in segments to make the file size shorter but if I do so, I'll have to do the "murder beam" glitch to get 0:38, a thing that I don't like, also I'll have to admit that I get this record *randomly* if I save and that was a big factor surrounding my head to whether saving or not to get perfectly all those tricks and/or still manage to get it.
You know the basic idea for any% runs; getting items that are the closest to your path, skipping unnecessary items or bosses, overall just getting at full speed through the game without waiting for anything. The only problem with this pure speed run route was which items were the best to get in your path, especially referring to super missiles because you rarely get to see them in your main path and they ARE the priority in any% runs which they're far more superior than missiles. The first super missile you get is in green-Brisntar after the mockball glitch and after that, you won't get to see another pack again until after you beat Phantoon. It was also quite hard to decide which was the right amount of supers to get without slowing me down. But there comes another small problem: having less super missiles means getting more beams. I decided to get every beam just to make sure to get all the boss battles quickly. Probably skipping the Wave or Ice beam saves time... but I haven't bothered to try a run that way yet.
Right after I got the Wave beam I skipped completely Crocomire and therefore all of south-west Norfair which it's a waste of time getting around there in any% runs. Other items and bosses that I skipped were the X-Ray Scope, the Spring Ball, Spore Spawn mini-boss, the Screw Attack and of course the entire Golden Torizo fight. Out of all my pure speed runs movies I only skipped an energy tank at LN in this one, just because I realized that Ridley isn't that hard to beat with only 4 ET's.
Overall, just about a close to perfection. I'll probably never beat this record unless (this would probably sound pathetic) something REALLY motivates me to use the murder beam glitch... or if another glitch is found. I'd say this is more like a show-off run and despite some of the minor mistakes, I know 0:37 can be achieved if I wouldn't be messing around trying to show new things to impress in a speed run :p. Truly worth a watch. Enjoy.
